Super Tuesday
Initial Thoughts on the Landslide Victory for the Texas Marriage Amendment
Yesterday, the voters of Texas reached a true judgment of the perils of legalizing alternative forms of marriage and overwhelming passed proposition 2, defining marriage as between one man and one woman, by a count of 76.2% for and 23.8% against.
While reading the various fulminations by the anti-prop 2 side can be entertaining for a time, there are now bigger causes to consider. First, I hope this reaffirmation of the traditional marriage will be a spring board to reasonable reforms of no-fault divorce laws in Texas. Second, this convincing victory helps build political pressure on Congress to pass a federal marriage amendment in the not too distant future. Both of these causes are worthy of the same steadfast vigilance as proposition 2.
11/15/05 Update: I propose that a third outcome from the passage of proposition 2 is that Christian ministries and churches will move quickly to minister to people caught in homosexuality. I fear most churches either make too much or too little of this particular sin. Some buy into the world's stance that homosexual behavior is acceptable and should be celebrated. Others treat homosexuals and those trying to get out of homosexuality with such disdain that it drives them away from the only One who can give true and lasting satisfaction, acceptance, and healing.

Keep the Texas Constitution Weird
Tomorrow, Tuesday November 8, is election day for Texas and Travis County. Polls are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
There are 9 state constitutional amendments and 3 local bond packages on the ballot. You can read about my take on all of them here.
Proposition 2, the Texas Marriage Amendment which defines marriage as one man and one woman, is also being voted on. I recommend you vote for prop. 2 for reasons stated here. See my other resources for proposition 2 at the top of the right navigation bar of this page.
On election day, you have to vote at the polling place for the precinct for which you are currently registered. This is diffrent than the early voting period, when you can vote at any early voting location in the county. To find out if and where you are registered in Travis County, click here.
After you identify your precinct, or if you already know it, click here to find out your polling place. This link includes the address and map to your precinct's polling place.
